Hylian Shield WIP by DreZX Hylian Shield WIP by DreZX
Healthy obsession, anyone? This is my attempt at a realistic Hylian Shield from the Legend of Zelda series. Ton of hours into it so far, but it's coming along nicely.

A. Cardboard and duct tape model covered in fiberglass.
B. First application of Bondo (car body filler)
C. After second application of Bondo and sanding, and then covered in primer.
D. Painted blue to see how it would look in final color.
E. Design was drawn onto shield with blue marker.
F. Started to do triangles and edging with Bondo.
G. Sanded Bondo.
H. Skipping a few steps.. this is after a few more coats and sandings of Bondo, then primering the whole thing again, and then cleaning up edges on the right side. The right side now has a texture like polished marble.

I can't wait to finish this thing, I'm well along the way. I just started this earlier this week.

Comments appreciated, updates hopefully coming soon.

Great job, I'm assuming both the Master Sword (obviously shown on another deviation) and Hylian Shield are Ocarina of Time style? If ever you have the urge to do the Twilight Princess version I've got a full-detail version lineart of it in my gallery. As for this awesome piece of work, this goes in my favs. ;D

I would certainly love to, but this is really expensive to make, the way I'm doing it. Though, if once it's done, I can make a mold of it and pump out copies, then yea, I'll be all over it.

You know what this means, don't you? You HAVE to get zelda cosplay pictures with the sword & shield.

That is simply awsome. I cant wait to see it finished!

How would you define it, boss? Before you answer, don't forget that everything you see in the last few pictures was hand sculpted.

just because something is hand "sculpted" does not make it a sculpture, i think the term hand crafted is more applicable, because you did not actually sculpt this, you crafted it.
when people use the term sculpted its referring to the addition and/or subtraction of a material from that same material.
the dictionary says a craft is an art and an art is a craft but they are very different.
crafts are functional objects which hevily emphasize the finished product rather than the concept behind the object. holloware, textiles, blacksmithing all fall under the category of craft.
art hevily emphasizes the concept more than the finished product.
so if i had to categorize this i would place it into the artisan crafts category under statuary or miscellanious.
i think thats all im going to say for now.

Well, though this isn't emphasizing the concept, it is indeed a "sculpted" piece, according to your definition. Every addition and subtraction made after the first step was an "addition and/or subtraction of a material from that same material." Just because I put it on top of a fiberglass base doesn't change the fact that it's a sculpture. I do however appreciate your input as to a better place to put this. I stuck it in sculpture because I sculpted it and I didn't know where else to put it. When I update the pictures, I shall change the category to the one you suggested. Thanks a lot, friend. I think that's all I'm going to say for now.. unless I decide against sounding like a pretentious elitist art snob. Then I might add more, just for the fun of it. :D

Have a lovely day, sir. God bless.

whatever. you're suposed to comment on the art itself, not how he catagorized it. now you just seem like an ass to those of us who dont know you. ^^
Anyway, Jiggy, I love it. You are a god. This is so amazing. ^^ talk to me more, cuz I get bored without our spirited conversations when all I have to talk to is perverted Evan, lol. How many things have you made before this?
